Children love Miró sculpture

Miró statue and little girlHere's another photo from my trip to Barcelona. Click on it to see a bigger image.

This statue by Joan Miró stands in front of the Joan Miró Foundation Museum in Barcelona. It was a magnet for all the children waiting in line—they all seemed to want to hang from its thing.

I loved this little girl's polka-dotted red shoes.

Sneaky male lizards imitate females

The three different morphs of the California Side-Blotched Lizard use three different sexual strategies. Ultra-dominant orange-throated males maintain large territories with multiple females. Monogamous blue-throated males devote all their energies to guarding a single female. Female-mimicking yellow-throated males sneak into orange-throated male territories to mate with their females.

The orange strategy beats the blue, the blue beats the yellow, and the yellow beats the orange in a rock-scissors-paper evolutionary standoff. I leave it to the reader to draw parallels with human society.

Warning: This site contains graphic images of copulating lizards.
